Health disparities and social determinants of health in urban communities

Amy Schulz’s global work focuses on social determinants of health in urban communities, racial and socioeconomic inequities in cardiovascular disease, social aspects of community and their relationship to health, and the social and physical environmental contributors to cardiovascular risk. Her interests in global health equity align with the Center theme of addressing social and environmental determinants of health. She works closely with Detroit Partners to understand and address factors that contribute to excess risk of cardiovascular disease in Detroit and develop a public health action plan to help reduce air pollution in Detroit and the surrounding area. Schulz is a leading scholar in designing and implementing multilevel interventions to promote environmental health and health equity in urban areas.
