Richard Adanu is rector of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he is a specialist obstetrician gynecologist in the University Hospital. He is also professor of Women’s Reproductive Health in the University of Ghana School of Public Health.
Adanu graduated from the University of Ghana Medical School and completed his postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, Ghana. He later obtained a master of public health degree from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health as a Gates scholar. Adanu served as editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics from 2014 to 2020. His research is in both the clinical and social aspects of women’s health. Some of his previous international responsibilities include leading a consortium of 11 African universities to facilitate an educational mobility program funded by the European Union and serving as an external consultant for units of the World Health Organization.
In this seminar, Dr. Adanu discusses his extensive experience as a physician focused on reducing maternal mortality, as a clinician focused on technological innovation, as well as his leadership in global health and medical education.
