Sport-based health promotion, women’s development, and disability inclusion
Denise Kamyuka’s global health focus centers on health promotion and socioeconomic development through sport for women in sports and people with disabilities, with particular emphasis on women in Botswana. Her interests in global health equity align with the Center’s themes of empowering women and addressing social and environmental determinants of health. Kamyuka’s research uses a decolonial, intersectional participatory action research approach to examine social entrepreneurship in sport among women in Botswana, highlighting cultural specificities that make these efforts both feasible and inaccessible. She also examines structural violence experienced by women in sports in Botswana.
