Impact scholars
Building the next generation of global health leaders
Our Impact Scholars program supports early-career scholars building interdisciplinary careers in global health research and program development. Scholars join a small cohort for a one-year appointment (with the potential to renew for a second), working alongside faculty mentors from across U-M and connecting to a network that spans disciplines, schools, and global partners.

What scholars receive
- Full salary and benefits, in accordance with NIH postdoctoral guidelines
- Funding for research expenses and travel
- An interdisciplinary mentorship committee, with faculty drawn from at least three different U-M schools or colleges
- A primary faculty mentor working closely on the scholar's research
- A small, close-knit cohort for peer learning, workshops, and professional development
- Work spanning two or more of the center's priority themes

Thematic areas
Scholar projects align with one or more of the center's priority themes:
- Strengthening systems to improve health and health equity
- Addressing and informing policy on the social and environmental determinants of health
- Developing technical solutions for health equity
- Empowering women as effectors of health for themselves, their families, and their communities

Eligibility
Open to candidates who have completed a terminal degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent) within the past few years, and who meet eligibility requirements for a postdoctoral position at the University of Michigan.
