Health care access for LGBTQ+ communities

Nancy Awori’s global work focuses on improving health care access in LGBTQ+ communities, especially in rural areas in Africa. Her interests in global health equity align with the Center’s themes of empowering women and communities, strengthening systems for health, and addressing social and environmental determinants of health. As a University of Michigan African Presidential Scholar (UMAPS), she is collaborating with U-M faculty on a research project aimed at exploring the representation of lesbian subjectivities in contemporary Kenyan films, focusing on the film Rafiki by Wanuri Kahiu.
