Ethnography and social theory of medicine and science

Scott Stonington's global work focuses on unintended consequences that arise in encounters between local moral worlds of global health organizations and the communities that they serve. His interests in global health equity align with the Center theme of strengthening systems of health. He also researches the social and cultural effects of the globalization of medicine, particularly in the realms of noncommunicable illness areas such as cancer, pain management, and palliative care.
