Graduate Student Summer Research Internship & Training Program—For Mentors

U-M Faculty, Mentor a Student Intern!

Help graduate students explore the field of global health equity and prepare for an impactful career through a unique combination of practical research experience, community-building, and professional development.

The Center for Global Health Equity offers a paid summer research and training internship that prepares highly motivated U-M graduate students in any discipline to become future leaders in the field of global health equity. CGHE research interns engage in the pursuit of practical and novel solutions for real global health challenges alongside leading faculty experts in the field.

CGHE offers students much more than a research internship. We prepare students for impactful careers in the field of global health equity through a series of professional learning sessions uniquely designed to complement the practical components of the internship.

How It Works

The center invites all U-M faculty to mentor a student in the Center’s Graduate Student Summer Research Internship and Training Program. You do not need to be a center member to submit a proposal (though we do hope you will consider membership). You can participate in the program multiple times.

Faculty are invited to submit a global health equity research project for which they seek a U-M graduate student research intern to work 18-20 hours/week over a 10-week period in summer 2025.

Faculty mentors receive research support from a dedicated graduate student whose stipend is paid by the center.

Student interns participate in structured training and professional development programming that complements the work faculty mentors assign them. Faculty may assign activities to be completed virtually, in-person, or via a hybrid arrangement. However, the student is expected to participate in the center's professional development programming, with some dates in-person in Ann Arbor. 

Faculty may propose a project for which they seek to be matched with a student or may identify student interns in advance and propose a faculty-student pair. U-M graduate students in any discipline—including master’s, doctoral, and other professional degree programs—are eligible to participate.
