
Richard Adanu, MBChB, MPH

Richard Adanu is a member of the Center’s External Advisory Board. He is the rector of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he is a specialist obstetrician gynecologist in the University Hospital. He is also professor of Women’s Reproductive Health in the University of Ghana School of Public Health. His global work focuses on reducing maternal morbidity, pelvic floor prolapses, pelvic floor repair, clinical and social aspects of women’s health. He has done extensive research on the epidemiology of obstetric and gynecological disorders in Ghana, family planning, cervical cancer screening and maternal injuries.
Prior to his service at the Ghana College, Adanu was the Dean of the School of Public Health at the University of Ghana. He spent three months at Michigan Medicine during residency in 2001 and has a number of research collaborations and training partnerships with University of Michigan faculty. He works with Center staff and faculty to lead a Ghana-U-M Health platform that aims to foster interdisciplinary collaborations around common themes in Ghana to improve health.
