Howard Stein, PhD, MA

Foreign aid, structural adjustment, and health and the environment in Africa
Howard Stein’s global work focuses on understanding the drivers of poverty, inequality, and socioeconomic transformation in the rural parts of Tanzania, where he has surveyed nearly 50 villages in 5 regions of the country. His interests in global health equity align with the Center theme of addressing social and environmental determinants of health. Stein is on the board of a non-governmental organization that coordinates an international initiative to manage the sustainability of the Great Lakes of Africa. Within this work, climate change and health dimensions are a central component.
