James (Jim) Bagian, MD

James Bagian’s global work focuses on improving healthcare operations to enhance patient safety. His interests in global health equity align with the Center themes of strengthening systems for health and providing technical solutions. Bagian’s research applies the systems engineering approaches to the analysis of medical adverse events, and the development and implementation of suitable corrective actions as a means to improve patient safety. Bagian was chief patient safety officer and founding director of the National Center for Patient Safety at the VA Hospital system.
