Building equitable pathways to sports injury prevention and care

Abigail Bretzin’s global health focus is on sports-related injuries as a public health issue, particularly in resource-limited settings where athletes face inequitable access to prevention, diagnosis, and care. She aims to understand current knowledge, awareness, healthcare-seeking behaviors, disclosure patterns, available resources, and existing health outcomes to establish a global baseline and identify gaps in injury management. Her interests in global health equity align with the Center’s themes of empowering women, strengthening systems for health, addressing social and environmental determinants of health, and developing technical solutions. Bretzin’s research maps the current state of awareness, care-seeking behavior, and available resources for sports-related injuries across diverse contexts. Building on this baseline, she develops and implements strategies to advance injury prevention, diagnosis, management, and long-term health outcomes worldwide.
