Angubeen (Angu) Khan, PhD, MPH
Angubeen Khan’s global health focus encompasses gender-based violence, women’s empowerment, sexual and reproductive health, and maternal and child health. Her interests in global health equity align with the Center’s themes of empowering women, strengthening systems for health, and addressing social and environmental determinants of health. Khan uses qualitative and quantitative research designs to assess the influence of sociocultural norms related to gender and the structural impacts of migration on empowerment and a range of health outcomes, including intimate partner violence, sexual and reproductive health, and maternal health, among Middle Eastern and North African and South Asian populations domestically and abroad. She has led community-engaged research within the MENA community in Southeast Michigan and leveraged various population-level demographic surveys, including the Matlab Health and Socioeconomic Survey from Bangladesh, the U.S. Census, and the California Health Interview Survey.
