Health equity for LBQT+ through empowerment, mental health, and participatory advocacy

Anita Mbanda’s global health focus centers on promoting health equity for LBQT+ persons by addressing social determinants shaping wellbeing through mental health promotion, economic empowerment, and socio-political inclusion. Her work is grounded in evidence-based feminist research and advocacy, reducing intersectional oppression and improving holistic health outcomes for women in all their diversities. Her interests in global health equity align with the Center’s themes of empowering women, strengthening systems for health, addressing social and environmental determinants of health, and developing technical solutions. Mbanda’s global research generates evidence on the social determinants of health affecting LBQT+ persons, using feminist participatory methodologies to understand how intersectional stigma, economic exclusion, and mental health disparities shape health outcomes. She uses this evidence to inform advocacy, strengthen program design, and advance global health equity strategies that improve wellbeing for women in all their diversities.
