Beverly Strassmann, PhD, MS
she/her/hers
Life history theory, human evolutionary ecology, genetics of kinship
Beverly Strassmann’s global work focuses on biological anthropology, evolutionary biology, and reproductive biology. Her interests in global health equity align with the Center themes of empowering women and communities, strengthening systems of health, and addressing social and environmental determinants of health. Strassmann directs a multi-generational cohort study in Mali where she collaborates with a Malian team to study the epigenetic transmission of stunting through genomic imprinting in the placenta. Her team also studies how imprinting could lead to a pattern of low birth weight and catch-up growth that sets the stage for health and social disparities in adult life.
