Economics and demography in low-resource settings

David Lam’s global work focuses on the interaction between economics and demography. His interests in global health equity align with the Center theme of addressing social and environmental determinants of health. Lam’s work examines the economics of population growth, fertility, marriage, and aging within a developing context. He has worked extensively in Brazil and South Africa, where his research analyzes links between education, labor markets, and income inequality. Lam serves as director of the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan.
