John Ayanian, MD, MPP

John Ayanian is Senior Advisor for the Center and holds professorships in the Medical School, School of Public Health, and Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy. He is the director of the Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation (IHPI).

Ayanian’s global health work focuses on healthcare access and quality of care to address non-communicable diseases. His interests in global health equity align with the Center themes of empowering women and communities, strengthening systems for health, and addressing social and environmental determinants of health. His research examines healthcare disparities associated with social determinants of health such as race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic factors in order to improve access and quality of care. Ayanian’s global efforts also take a health care policy focus and aim to reduce health disparities.
