Mieko Yoshihama, PhD, MSW

she/her/hers
Gender-based violence, racial and gender discrimination, mental health and social/environmental determinants, immigrant and marginalized communities

Meiko Yoshihama's global work focuses on the prevention of gender-based violence and the promotion of well-being of immigrants and other marginalized communities locally and globally. Her research interests in health equity align with the Center's themes of empowering women, strengthening systems of health, and social and environmental determinants of health. Through a wide range of research methodologies—including surveys, theatre, PhotoVoice, and other participatory methods—she examines multi-level and intersectional social determinants of health and how they differ by gender, race/ethnicity, immigration status, and other social positionalities. She is also innovating socioculturally responsive prevention and intervention programs in the field of mental health.
