Advancing health equity for LBQT+ persons through feminist research, mental health support, and advocacy

Rebecca Ogembo Odhiambo is a project management professional from the University of Nairobi. Their global health focus centers on promoting health equity for LBQT+ persons by addressing the social determinants of health that shape their wellbeing through mental health promotion, economic empowerment, and socio-political inclusion. Their work is grounded in evidence-based feminist research and advocacy, aiming to reduce intersectional oppression and improve holistic health outcomes for women in all their identities and diversities. Their interests in global health equity align with the Center’s themes of empowering women, strengthening systems for health, addressing social and environmental determinants of health, and developing technical solutions. Odhiambo’s global research generates evidence on the social determinants of health affecting LBQT+ persons, using feminist participatory methodologies and feminist popular education to understand how intersectional stigma, economic exclusion, and mental health disparities shape health outcomes. Rebecca uses this evidence to inform advocacy, strengthen program design, and advance global health equity strategies that improve wellbeing for women in all their identities and diversities.
