Zhong Wang, PhD, MS

Identify drugs that protect heart muscle cell function after heart injury

Zhong Wang’s global work focuses on developing heart therapies to improve and prolong the life of heart patients. His interests in global health equity align with the Center themes of strengthening systems of health and providing technical solutions. Wang’s lab focuses on epigenetic mechanisms of cardiac cell metabolism, the development of novel strategies for heart repair and regeneration, and cardiac progenitor differentiation and reprogramming. His research may lead to cues to help develop modern medical treatments such as small molecule drugs and gene or stem cell therapies against these diseases.
