Funding for co-designed projects that drive impact

Open to teams that are co-led by U-M faculty and global collaborators.

The Center provides funding for collaborative projects co-designed with global partners that advance health equity in low- and middle-income countries and align with our thematic priorities:

  • Strengthening systems to improve health and health equity
  • Addressing and informing policy on the social and environmental determinants of health 
  • Developing technical solutions for health equity 
  • Empowering women as effectors of health for themselves, their families, and their communities

Tips for Successful Applications

One common pitfall is that applicants are not able to convince the center of their commitment to an interdisciplinary approach. Our Center is committed to supporting projects that are able to demonstrate proof of interdisciplinary collaboration, in both the design of the proposal, as well as the implementation of the project (rather than a list of possible collaborators).  Please include in your application a description of how the project proposal is benefiting from multiple disciplinary perspectives.

Demonstrate a clearly articulated ‘line of sight’ to impact health for those living in LMICs (i.e., if implemented, how could this project contribute to solutions or changes that could ultimately cause people to live longer or healthier lives.

  • Don’t wait until grants are completed before sharing results with communities
  • Have a strong connection with local policy makers to integrate findings into ongoing programs/research
  • Start disseminating findings through press releases and other policy outlets

 

Work with global collaborators to ensure the proposed project addresses a critical problem. Clearly communicate this critical need in your application and demonstrate that these collaborators will be involved throughout the project’s lifespan. 

Schedule a consultation with a CGHE Project Manager to discuss your project idea and receive pre-submission feedback to strengthen your proposal.
 

  • Join a CGHE Challenge Group to learn more about current projects and receive multidisciplinary input on your project idea.
  • Attend Center events and learn more about co-designing projects for impact.
     

Seed Grants

Seed Grants support exploratory projects that catalyze novel ideas and collaborations and build a case for larger-scale or more expansive projects that will help people live healthier and longer lives. Open to U-M faculty and global collaborator teams.

  • Grant amount: up to $35,000
  • Project duration: up to 12 months

Impact Accelerator Grants

Impact Accelerator Grants support action-oriented projects that design or test solutions to health equity challenges in low- and middle-income countries. Open to teams that are co-led by U-M faculty and global collaborators.

  • Grant Amount: $35,000–$100,000
  • Project Duration: 12–24 months
