Sustainable solutions to energy, food, and water security challenges in resource-constrained areas, sustainability education

Johannes Schwank’s global work focuses on holistic, sustainable solutions to the energy, food, and water security challenges in resource-constrained communities, with a specific focus on education and entrepreneurship. His interests in global health equity align with the Center themes of addressing social and environmental determinants of health and providing technical solutions. He has collaborated with the Albert Schweitzer Foundation and the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Lambaréné, Gabon, to help establish a research institute for sustainability education (RISE) on the campus of the hospital. RISE could eventually serve as a regional hub for the transformation of education in Gabon with satellite in other locations. He believes these new educational methodologies will have many advantages for the future of Gabon and could serve as a model for other countries in the region.
