The Center for Global Health Equity (CGHE) is pleased to extend an invitation to University of Michigan faculty members seeking to host an Impact Scholar. Working with U-M faculty mentors, impact scholars engage in projects that involve collaboration across two or more themes that have been prioritized by the Center. The program is designed to support those who are passionate about designing work that has positive health impacts for those in low- and middle-income countries. This initiative provides a unique opportunity for faculty members to collaborate with emerging global health leaders and drive impactful research and projects in key thematic areas related to global health equity.
CGHE faculty members are invited to propose an Impact Scholar in one of two ways:
- Propose a specific project/area of work with a preferred candidate in mind: Faculty members with a particular project or research area in mind can nominate a preferred candidate to work on the project within the Impact Scholar Program.
- Propose a specific project/area of work without a preferred candidate in mind: Alternatively, faculty members can propose a specific project or area of work aligned with the Center's thematic areas without specifying a preferred candidate.Faculty members whose proposals have been approved can move forward with active recruitment of a preferred candidate.
The proposed projects or areas of work should align with the Center for Global Health Equity's thematic areas of focus, which include:
- Strengthening Systems to Improve Health and Health Equity: This includes innovative approaches in collaboration with the private sector, such as human resource development, collaborative care models, supply-chain optimization, and improving access to healthcare.
- Informing policy and programming related to social and environmental determinants of health (climate change, food security, education, health economics, and economic development)
- Developing technical solutions for health equity (artificial intelligence and data science approaches, telehealth tools, and systems)
- Empowering women as effectors of health for themselves, their families, and their communities
Impact Scholars are appointed for one year—with an option to renew for a second—as they build coherent bodies of their own work and prepare for successful global health careers in academia, government, civil society, or advocacy as effective, influential leaders.
The Center provides full salary and benefits for the scholar, up to the PGY2 level in accordance with the NIH guidelines, along with allocation of some funding for research expenses and travel. CGHE faculty members proposing a scholar with more than two years of experience will be expected to help cover salary expenses above the PGY2 level.
CGHE faculty members interested in hosting an Impact Scholar can find detailed application instructions on the Center's website. For inquiries and additional information, please contact Tania Piotrowski, taniag@umich.edu
