she/her/hers
Occupational health, environmental and social epidemiology, reproductive health, maternal and child health
Alexis Handal's global work focuses on the impact of large-scale agricultural production on the health of workers and surrounding communities, with a particular focus on female workers, pregnant workers, and their families in Latinx and Indigenous populations in Latin America and the US. Her research interests in health equity align with the Center’s themes of addressing social and environmental determinants of health and empowering women and communities. Handal centers community-engaged and participatory research methods to explore questions on occupational and environmental epidemiology, reproductive epidemiology, social epidemiology, and legislative protections for worker health globally.
