Kentaro Toyama, PhD

Using information, communication, and technology for social change

Kentaro Toyama’s global work focuses on improving health knowledge and behavior through technology among low-income groups. His interests in global health equity align with the Center themes of empowering women and communities, strengthening systems of health, and providing technical solutions. His work also focuses on human computer interaction. Toyama founded the Technology for Emerging Markets research group, which conducts interdisciplinary research to help understand how the world’s poorer communities interact with electronic technology and invent new technologies to support their socio-economic development.
